Anyone who’s known me during my birthday month of August would know that birthdays are big to me. They are pretty much like a second Christmas. Like the “holiday season” is to Christmas, so is pretty much the entire month of August to my birthday. (Like that SAT-style analogy?
) Same is true for my bestie/roommate Konrad. His 24th birthday was this last week, February 22nd to be exact, and in true K-Rad fashion, the festivities lasted from the 18th until… pretty much right now. haha
Here are a few highlights from the three main events:
The party week began on the 18th with a “VIP” Dinner at Bar Due (which is the bar section of Fratelli’s). Only Konrad’s closest friends were invited and it ended up being a nice intimate dinner with myself, Konrad and Katy and then later Katy’s bf Ryan joined. We enjoyed some incredible happy hour food, “Cello drops” (which were lemon drops made with their housemade arancello [like lemoncello only with oranges]… basically they tasted like vodka and Tang…. haha ) and of course plenty of conversation. It was the first time I’d met Katy, who is Konrad’s other bestie, so it was good to get to know her and it was nice that conversation flowed so well between the three of us. The waitress was a little (ok, a lot) snippy at first but warmed up as the night went on. Katy also bought us a round of German Chocolate Cake Shots that were really tasty! After dinner, Konrad and I caught a late showing of “I Am Number Four." I hadn’t heard a single word about this movie but it was incredible! I can’t wait to see the next one… or even just to see this movie again! It was a good way to start off the birthday festivities!
The second celebration was on Konrad’s actual Birthday night, the 22nd. A small group of us met up at Portland City Grill for some happy food and drinks. Konrad and I had been to PCG several times but not for years (literally) so it was kind of a special occasion for me too. I love that place. It’s got an incredible view of all the city lights of Portland (kind of kicking myself for not getting a picture of that
) and a much more upscale feel than many of the Portland happy hours that I have frequented. Being that is was a Tuesday Konrad and I have no problem snagging a booth for our group. Katy and her Boyfriend Ryan joined us again as well as her friend Dawn and Konrad’s coworker/new friend Kelsey. Between the 6 of us I think we ordered literally everything on the menu. They have such good food on their happy hour menu and all for under $5! There were also plenty of Mango Mojitos floating around. mmmm. Our waitress was super sweet too. Konrad picked up on her accent right away and as it turns out she is from Bolivia or Argentina or something like that! Kind of exotic for Portland, Oregon, right?
Overall, Tuesday was a great night. A good way for Konrad to start off his 24th year. It was a super long day for me (work 7:45-4:30ish then just enough time to grab dinner and shower before I had to go back for a meeting from 6-8pm before Konrad and I headed downtown around 9pm so there was zero time for a nap) so by the time we pulled up to our apartment I was more than ready to hit the pillow and pass out. haha
The final party was a big bash hosted by one of Konrad’s moho friends in Portland. The theme was “It’s Raining Men" so people were told to wear rain gear. Not many people actually showed up in galoshes or anything but this is the Northwest so anything we wear is “rain gear”, right?
There were tons of people that came though. Out of a couple dozen party guests I knew maaaaayyybe 5 people but I think that was the case for most people. This was pretty much the first opportunity for all of Konrad’s different friends groups to get together. So while almost everyone knew Konrad and maybe one or two other people, most of us were strangers. I was nervous but it all turned out great! Everyone was pretty friendly, there was music, dancing, plenty of mingling and a few pretty strong mixed drinks. haha. It was a great recipe for a great night. ![]()
Katy’s new “jeggings” (she had just bought that day) and her killer booties. Love!
Happy Birthday, K-Boo. I hope this next year hold more fabulousness than anyone could wish for. Love you!
That was such a fun birthday and birthday party! Thank you for helping it make it more special. It really was a blast. :)
