Being a barista, I don’t have the typical weekends that most people do. Most of the time this is a plus because A also has weird weekends (Sunday-Tuesday/Wednesday) but lately I’ve had to work during his whole weekend. Usually I am toasted after a shift so we have just been bumming around our neighborhood and not doing much of anything but relaxing and sleeping. This week though we shared Tuesday off and ended up going on a little excursion to the Edgefield McMenamins. We’ve been to a couple other McMenamins (Rock Creek Tavern is our favorite so far) so it’s kind of our “thing.” Edgefield is pretty far off our usual beaten path but I wanted to go out to that area to visit a friend so A suggested we journey a little further to check it out. It was a Tuesday and the weather was poor so most the estate was totally desolate but we still had fun exploring. I’d only been to Edgefield once before for a concert so all the little nooks and crannies were new to me. Armed with a couple glasses of the seasonal Sleepy Hollow Nut Brown, we set off to see was there was to see. We wandered the halls of the hotel and spent some time picking over the odd-n-ends at the gift shop (and picked up some delicious Moonstruck Almond Sea Salt Bark, mmm). Luckily, the Glashaus was open and we got to watch a girl working on some beautiful glass flowers and visit with her adorable and affectionate puppy, Louie.
Nut Brown. Tasty.
This is from this great planter/arbor made out of pipes and such in one of the seasonal porches. So pretty.
Louie!
The Power Station Pub was calling our name at dinner time… we had the required McMenamins burgers then shared some really incredible Terminator Chocolate cake. I didn’t care all that much for the Raspberry-Ruby Ale compote but the mousse filling was tasty!
A looked so scrumptious handsome in his new vest. My man knows how to dress, that’s for sure. ![]()
Chocolate cake before…
Chocolate cake after… that poor thing never saw us coming… haha
We ended the evening at The Little Red Shed, my favorite part. It’s literally a red shack in the middle of a little tree grove. It’s designated as cigar smoking room where you can also enjoy some of their brews and cocktails. There’s a great little fireplace and a section that is reminiscent of a greenhouse with giant windows. It was so cool to look out the window and through the brush outside, like being in a hidden hobbit-house.
Very cozy and whimsical.
Looking out from the hobbit hole…
The whole estate is incredible. There is so much history, it started out as a county “poor” farm, and all kinds of fun little settings to relax in. There were were tons of other little buildings and outdoor seating areas that I’m sure will be opening up as the weather get better so I definitely want to go back in the summertime.
i love the picture of the 2 beers :) Glad to hear you had fun :)xoxo!
